I stood up to grab my coffee mug, the last of the French Roast hissing through the pod as the storm groaned against the siding. Then the sound came again—one long, deep blast from a freighter backing into the channel, followed by three short, sharp whistles from the tug assisting its turn. Standard harbor protocol. Still, it carried something that felt like call and response. Urgency and answer.

Still thinking about that email.

Still thinking about what a city might feel like if the money went where the hours go.
