“The sabotage wasn’t subtle. It didn’t have to be.”

It wasn’t a slip. It was the strategy.

On June 14, while tanks rumbled through Washington for a Flag Day military parade, two coordinated attacks unfolded in Minnesota. Former state House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband were murdered in their home. Across the river, state Senator John Hoffman and his family were ambushed. His wife, Yvette, survived after shielding their daughter with her own body.

The suspect left behind a manifesto. Seventy names. Judges. Lawmakers. Activists. All marked. “This was a terror attack against democracy itself,” said Governor Tim Walz.

By then, the tanks had stopped moving.

In the early days of June, Trump stood on the White House lawn and declared: “We’ve made America proud again.” Behind him, the press pool was silent. One reporter in the back asked whether the administration would appeal the latest federal ruling on voting access.

“We’ll see,” Trump said. “But I can tell you this. A lot fewer people are cheating now.”

Back in Ohio, Mona still hasn’t heard back from the Medicaid office. Davion’s file is still flagged. She carries his paperwork in her bag—just in case.

“It’s not even about the money,” she said. “It’s about having to prove I belong. Every single week.”

“Not invisible. Not safe. Just here. Just enough.”
